die drei Schlüssel findet, geht als Gewinner hervor. Und nur seine Linie wird
überleben, wenn die gesamte Menschheit vernichtet wird.
Umsetzung
„Endgame – Die Auserwählten“ ist Science Fiction, ein Genre,
zu dem ich nicht so oft greife, weswegen ich nicht so gut Vergleiche zu anderen
Büchern ziehen kann.
Als Buch für sich hat es mir durchaus gefallen; es hat mich
zwar nicht umgehauen oder in irgendeiner Weise ganz besonders für mich
eingenommen, aber es war schon spannend und ich wollte immer wissen, wie es
weitergehen würde.
Interessant an dem Buch fand ich auch, dass jeder der
Spieler mal aus seiner Sicht erzählt hat und nicht nur eine Person im
Mittelpunkt stand, sodass man als Leser den Spielern immer einen Schritt voraus
war.
Schreibstil
James Frey hat „Endgame – Die Auserwählten“ aus der Sicht
des personalen, teilweise sogar schon neutralen Erzählers geschrieben, wodurch
es einem als Leser so vorkam, als würde man die Spieler wie im Fernsehen
beobachten und nur ausschnittsweise Einblicke in ihre Gefühlswelten bekommen.
Die knappen Sätze ohne große Ausschmückungen bewirken, dass
man durch das Buch nur so fliegt und die Handlung schnell vorangetrieben wird.
Dies kam der Geschichte sehr zugute, da ich denke, das Buch wäre schnell
langweilig geworden, wenn man sich noch groß an irgendwelchen
Landschaftsbeschreibungen aufgehalten hätte.
Emotionen
Das Buch hat mich emotional zwar nicht vollkommen fertig
gemacht und ich hab auch nicht die ganze Zeit vor Spannung an meinen
Fingernägeln geknabbert, aber in irgendeiner Weise war ich schon emotional an
der Geschichte und den Charakteren beteiligt – zumindest so sehr, dass ich nun
den zweiten Band so bald wie möglich lesen möchte, um zu erfahren, wie es
weitergeht.
Insgesamt
Alles in allem ist „Endgame – Die Auserwählten“ ein gutes
Buch für alle, die ein bisschen Action wollen und Science Fiction mögen. Wie
gesagt, hat es mich zwar nicht von den Socken gehauen, aber genossen habe ich
es trotzdem sehr.

Execution
„Endgame – The Calling“ is a science fiction novel which is
a genre that I normally don’t read that often.
Nevertheless, I liked it; it didn’t overwhelm me and also,
it wasn’t a super special book for me, but it was indeed gripping and I always
wanted to know how the story would go on.
Also interesting for me was that each player told the story
from his point of view and not only one (like e.g. in The Hunger Games) so that
as the reader, you’re always a step behead of the players.
Writing
„Endgame – The Calling“ is written in limited, sometimes
even neutral narrative which is why as a reader I felt like I watched Endgame
in TV and didn’t have in-depth look into the players’ feelings.
The short sentences without any flourish had the effect that
the book was really easy to read and fast paced.
This benefitted the story a lot because I think it could
have gotten easily boring if the writer would have had a lyrical, epic writing
style.
Emotions
The book wasn’t emotionally devastating and I wasn’t on the
edge of my seat the entire time but in some way, I was emotionally invested in
the story and the characters – at least I really want to read the sequel as
soon as possible so that I know how the story’s going on.
All in all
Altogether, „Endgame – The Calling“ is a good book for
everyone who wants a bit of action and likes science fiction. Like I said, it
didn’t exactly swept me off my feet but yet I did enjoy it a lot.
